League Rules

2023 League Rules

– Wood bats are mandatory.

– All games are 7 innings in length. If a game is tied after 7 innings, 2 extra innings may be played at the umpires discretion, depending on the amount of sun light.

– A runner for the catcher (last out or clean shirt) with 2 outs to save time is completely optional.

– Teams have a grace period of 15 minutes after the game’s start time to field a team of 9 players. If they fail to do so, they will forfeit the game and be fined $300.

– At the Commissioner and President’s discretion, under any circumstance besides weather, teams must give their opponents at least 24 hours notice if they need to cancel a game. Failure to do so will result in a $100 penalty and a forfeit of the game.

– Each team will pay a $75 fee to the league by a date specified to the teams at the annual spring meeting. At the same time, teams are required to pay $100 to the league as a bond for registering their team with Sask Baseball for insurance.  If a team fails to register with Sask Baseball, their $100 bond will be forfeited to the league.  The league will use that money to split amongst teams that did register with Sask Baseball to pay for diamond time.

– All players are only eligible to play for ONE team in the QVBL. As soon as a player plays ONE game for a QVBL team they are only eligible to play for that team for the duration of the season. Exception: Junior age players may be picked-up to play on any QVBL team and are not restricted to any number of games or teams. QVBL teams must contact the coach of the player’s Junior team to ask permission for that player to play in a QVBL game.

– Junior players are not allowed to pitch for a QVBL team under any circumstances and are not eligible for playoffs.

– In order to be eligible to participate in playoffs for a team, a player must have played a minimum of 2 regular season games with that team.

– All Junior age players who reside in Regina and have played Midget or Junior baseball in the Regina leagues must be granted a release by the Junior team who has drafted that player in order to play full time in the QVBL.  This can be done by contacting the coach or contacting Norm at Optimist Park. Each situation will be looked at, however it is very important that our teams are not raiding this league or it will die. Please use good judgement in determining Junior players you want to add to your roster.

– Any player that has been on a WMBL roster for 3 or more games in the current season will not be allowed to participate with any QVBL team in that same season.

– In the result of 2 or more teams finishing with the same amount of points in the standings, the team with MORE games played will finish ahead. This is to encourage teams to get all of their games in.

– If 2 or more teams finish with the same amount of points in the standings and the same amount of games played the tie breaking formula will be runs for/against in head to head games played between the tied teams. Any further tie breakers needed will be determined by the QVBL Commissioner.

– Wild Card Playoff Games will be a best of 3 series elimination format. The higher ranked team from the Regular Season or the team from the higher Division will be Home Team.

– Playoff Series will be a Best-of-3 format with the higher ranked team in the Regular Season being the Home Team for Game 1 and Game 3 (if necessary). All Wild Card teams advancing to a Playoff Series will be the Away Team in Game 1 and Game 3 (if necessary).

Regular Season Division Format

– Teams will be ranked in the A or B Division.

– Teams in the A Division will play 3 games against each team in their division (15 games) and two games versus B Division teams (17 Games in all).

– Teams in the B Division will play two games against each team in their division (14 games) and two games versus A Division teams (16 Games in all).

*Extra game/Inter-Division games are determined by weighting from prior season standings.  A1 plays B1 and B2; A6 plays B7 and B8.  Due to difference in division size, its necessary for B5-B8 to play their second “extra” game vs. one another. B5 vs B6, and B7 vs. B8
